Every family has a beginning, and for
us it all started in 1980 with the opening of the first of The Early Learning
Centre family of schools, The City School. Our family has since grown considerably
as you will learn by perusing our home page. This
first campus is conveniently located on Soi 49 in the heart of Bangkok’s
residential district, enabling easy access for parents wanting rural charm
in an urban area. The beauty of the school prompted one child to recently
inquire of her mother, "Is this a house or a school?" Our landscaping
provides a park like atmosphere for the children to play in, and the buildings
are a delightful eclectic combination of very old ‘Thai’ and
extremely modern ‘Western’. The environment is unique, designed
specifically for the early childhood years. Knowing that the early childhood
years (0-9) are the most important in a child’s educational career,
the staff has a deep understanding of the developmental stages that the
young child encounters. The Early Learning Centre
has undergone an impressive expansion with the addition of new play spaces,
gardens with a pond, three ancient style Thai buildings, and the magnificent
new studio for music, dance, and drama. In a traditional Thai house the
children study the Thai language and culture in a setting identical to pictures
in their textbooks and listen to their voices resonate with the teak. In
the park sit three century old Thai houses that are home to the art studio
and library as well as various specialist classes such as a variety of different
languages, abacus, and project work meetings. By
far the most impressive addition is the new music, dance, and drama studio.
A Bo Tree lives outside the studio to add reverence and mystery to the entrance.
An outside stage allows for impromptu drama during free time outside. An
atrium opens up to a loft above where a sound laboratory is presently in
the making. The curves and grace add pleasure and focus to the rehearsals
and performances. An entirely new branch of the curriculum will be developed
to make music, dance and drama languages that children use to make visible
their joy and subjective life. With both originality and ingenuity we have
shown our commitment to the ‘hundred languages’ so children
can learn to communicate with others, with nature, and with themselves.
Visitors have been welcomed from around the world and many renowned educators
have come to study this centre of learning. Our graduating
class is well received by all the international schools because of our reputation
for preparing first class students.
